Welcome Back Zoom - 06/02/21

I have just attended the Welcome Back Zoom. It was lovely to see some familiar faces and some new ones.

Helen said something lovely that has stuck with me... Don't tell yourself you can't do it, tell yourself you can but you just need some practise.

I hear that the work load increases slightly in Module Two, and having never planned an inquiry before, I am feeling a bit apprehensive. But just because I have never done something, doesn't mean it will go terribly. And that is what this Module is all about... creating a structure ready to start the inquiry in September. As performers, we are already so used to preparation whether that be for exams, auditions or getting ready for a performance in a professional job, so hopefully this planning won't feel completely unfamiliar.

Going into Module Two, I would like to improve on my communication through these blogs...

I sound like a granny asking this question...

Last term, after commenting on other students' blog posts, I often missed out on their replies because I wasn't receiving notifications. Does anyone know how/if there is a way of receiving notifications from comments and replies?

I am looking forward to starting the next chapter with you all x

  1. Nice post Alice.
Yes the skype was a nice welcome back and a reminder of different aspects. It was weird as I felt quite a bit calmer on this welcome skype than i did on any other skype during the last module...don't get me wrong i'm still apprehensive about our module, but i do feel its more doable than i did last term. And like you said 'But just because I have never done something, doesn't mean it will go terribly.' this is a perfect description of how we should feel x Anyways we have got a great support group so just reach out if needed. x I don't think that you can get notifications if someone comments on your reply on their blog, so think you just have to return and check... i might be wrong xx

    1. Thanks Clare! I know what you mean, the zoom felt a lot more relaxed this time, maybe we're getting used to all this now. Also, going into M2, I feel that we know what to expect more than we did for M1. I'm excited to get this started and finished now... lol! And like you have said, we have an amazing support group to discuss any concerns with too which is amazing! That's a shame about the comments, I wished there was a way but I suppose I can just make a note of my replies, return and check! xx

  3. Welcome back Alice! I agree I feel apprehensive again and I am feeling how I did at the start of mod 1, a little lost and confused but hopefully it will all come together soon! I love your point about how as performers we always prepare for things!

Yes I agree about the bottom point it's so annoying we don't get notifications, I don't even get a notification to say if someone's commented on my own blog too!

    1. Thank you Emily, welcome back too :) I think at this stage it is normal to be feeling apprehensive, but luckily this term we are starting already knowing our lovely BAPP community. Hopefully as we move through the module, the work will start to make more sense too. And I know, it is so frustrating! You would think in this day and age there would be a way to receive notifications haha x

  4. Really like how you described our inquiry like planning for a show... a really nice way to think and relate to it! I think it helps when you feel overwhelmed to come back to what we know already and find a way to link things. I have a feeling thats exactly what they want also ;) Hope you found a way to get notified now....perhaps you needed to change your layout or theme. I have a "notify me" button which links straight to my gmail at the bottom of where I am typing now...

    1. Hi Emily. Never even knew this button existed. Thanks for that tip.

    2. Thank you Emily, I like to think so too. I know that preparing for a show is comes more naturally than planning an inquiry, but positive thinking will get us through. Also thanks for the tip, I don't know why I never thought to tap the 'notify me' button, but I definitely will now! x

  5. Great post Alice. I also talked about the similarities between prepping for performing and and professional inquiry. I updated to link you post in as well.

  6. Hello Alice,
I really enjoyed reading many of your blogs, I always feel I can really relate to them! And yes a notification would be great, I still struggle with the technology of blogging, which sounds ridiculous. But does anyone else have the problem that their comments to other people's blogs don't show up??? To round it up and say we can hopefully think of it as planning for an audition or a show is also a great way to think of it, not quite so daunting! I just still have no idea where to put my focus at the moment. I think my mapping areas from mod 1 don't feel very weighted. But I have to be honest I have not yet put that much thought into them, I just need a day of motivation and inspiration :) hopefully it will come soon.
Thank you again for the nice read.
    Best wishes to everyone!
    Lauren

    1. Hi Lauren, thank you so much! I know how you feel, I still haven't quite got used to the ins and outs of blogging yet, but with a lot of trial and error last term, it definitely feels easier now. I think some people have the option to view their replies before publishing them... I remember commenting on Adesola's blog for the first time and unknowingly I left 6 comments lol!
I know the feeling about trying to find a focus, but I think as we begin researching 'how to research', we will find some tips to help us find our inquiry topic, then hopefully in a couple of weeks our thoughts will seem clearer! I hope this helps, I look forward to reading your blogs this term x

  7. Hi Alice, I'm glad to have your blogs back! Really enjoyed this one, especially your comparison to our profession. Doing something new is often (always if you're me) scary but I think the only two options are don't try (not exactly advised) or allow yourself to feel those emotions and use them as a driver to want to learn. We have such a supportive community I know we will get through together!! x
